Diet plays an important role in the treatment of heart conditions, so your vet will usually prescribe a special diet food, such as Royal Canin Cardiac. This diet food has been specially developed to support cardiac function in dogs with heart disease.

Recommended for

• The canned and dry food is recommended for the first 3 stages of any heart condition. In stage 4, we recommend Royal Canin Cardiac canned food, as it contains even less sodium.
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Key features

Royal Canin Cardiac Diet is a special diet food used to treat heart conditions and hypertension (high blood pressure). Royal Canin Cardiac is enriched with flavanols. Flavanols from green tea improve blood circulation in the tissues and organs, and slow cellular ageing. It also has a reduced phosphorus content. In heart problems associated with renal dysfunction, reduced phosphorus content helps preserve kidney function. What's more, sodium content is as low as possible in this diet, and potassium and magnesium contents are adjusted in order to reduce strain on the heart. The taurine and L-carnitine in this food are essential for heart muscle function.

Advice

It is recommended that you use Royal Canin Cardiac as soon as the first signs of heart failure occur. Dogs with a heart condition often show the symptoms of decreased appetite and weight loss. This food is particularly tasty, to encourage your dog to eat.

Royal Canin Cardiac Diet is not suitable for

• Pregnant or lactating dogs
• Dogs with a sodium deficiency
• Dogs with pancreas inflammation, or a history of the condition
• Dogs with hyperlipidaemia.

Ingredients:

Rice, dehydrated poultry protein, corn meal, animal fats, maize gluten, egg powder, hydrolysed animal proteins, beet pulp, fish oil, vegetable fibres, minerals, soya oil, yeast, fructooligosaccharides, green tea extracts (source of polyphenols), Tagetes (African) extract (source of lutein).
