Dalmatian

Almost everyone knows this breed from the Disney film ‘101 Dalmatians’. The Dalmatian is a cheerful, energetic and real family dog. The Dalmatian loves to have fun by running and playing with others. This breed is also very sociable and is therefore not suitable as a guard dog. He can behave like a real clown and can make everybody laugh.

Colour

The coat of the Dalmatian is short and shiny. The characteristic colours of this breed are white with black or brown spots. When they are puppies, they are still completely white and the spots develop later. Because of the short hair, it is wise to keep this breed indoors, as they cannot stand very cold weather conditions.

Approach to training

A Dalmatian can be trained very easily. However, your dalmatian can get very tense if you don’t train him at all. It is important to give clear signals, without raising the voice or using a heavy hand. Rewards help in training the Dalmatian.

Common symptoms

The Dalmatian is often genetically deaf. This is tested when they are still puppies. Dalmatians can also be prone to allergies, eye problems, and skin conditions.

The Dalmatian is suitable as a tracker and hunting dog. They are also very good at various agility sports and flyball

Dalmatians are suitable for owners who:

  • Offer the dog space to run
  • Are not looking for a guard dog
  • Do not have very small children, because the Dalmatian can sometimes be a little too enthusiastic.
