Cholodin is a nutritional supplement for dogs and cats that show signs of ageing which may include changes to appetite, mood and memory.

Recommended for

Various encouraging clinical trials have been carried out on the effectiveness of Cholodin for symptoms of old age:

  • Poor hearing
  • Listlessness
  • Daytime snoozing
  • Peeing in the house
  • Lack of recognition
  • Not responsive to stimulus
  • Tension caused by slower brain function

  • Laziness
  • Uncleanliness (cats urinating in the house)
  • Reduced memory
  • Irritability
  • Frequent and loud meowing
  • Stress
  • Lack of appetite
  • Excessive moulting

Cholodin may have a supportive effect in case of complaints caused by the ageing of the brain. It is important to let your veterinarian rule out other medical causes. Veterinarians in the U.S. have reported good results with primary epilepsy.

Difference between Cholodin for cats and dogs

Cholodin for cats contains taurine, an essential amino acid for cats that acts as a neurotransmitter between nerve cells. Unlike dogs, cats cannot produce their own taurine.

Dosage and application

AnimalDaily dosage
Cat1 tablet
Dog up to 11kg1/2 tablet
Dog 11-23kg1 tablet
Dog 23kg and over2 tablets

The tablets are easily tolerated and absorbed. Dogs will eat them as a treat and many cats will too. If this is not the case, the tablet can be broken up and mixed into food. It is important to adhere to the effective dosage.

Possible side effects

Hyperactivity and muscle tremors have been observed in some very active pets.

Please note

Cholodin has a shelf life of 3 years from the date stated on the jar. The production date is indicated as the day of the year, followed by the year. For example: KC34518 was produced on the 345th days of 2018.

Choline, phosphatidylcholine, inositol, zinc and several B vitamins.

My elderly cat was diagnosed with dementia. Someone suggested these tablets. They made a difference. Nearly two months later, I now have my cat 'back'. There are very little signs of dementia now, and he is much happier in himself. Over a period of time, he improved more and more. Thank you.

Too soon to tell

The tablets are very large and apparently not palatable to a senior dog suffering from dementia, so I have to crush them into a fine powder, mix them with some water, and syringe feed them to my dog. Whether they work, it's too early to tell. I certainly hope so! Note also that this company is not in the UK, and ships from Holland, something which took over two weeks in the current situation, so bear that in mind if you are in a hurry.

It works for Doggy Dementia
By , 05 July 2019

My 16 year old deaf Jack Russell who had been diagnosed by the vet as having canine cognitive behaviour (doggy dementia) was keeping us awake with her restlessness and random barking at night. After taking the tablets for a week she started to settle a lot better and only got us up a couple of times each night. After 2 weeks she sometimes sleeps all night and is much more alert and engaging in life too.

Cholodin for my vey old dog
By , 21 July 2017

I bought this after near coming to the end of my tether with my very old Russel. She's about 18, blind and mildly losing it, so I was looking for anything to stop her decline. Whilst it's too early to say if it's stopped her mental decline I can say that after taking the supplement, her appetite has come back with a vengeance. For this alone it's worth it, she was starting to look like a cow struck by famine but now has her happy belly back.

This product has really helped our older dog with his symptoms of old age. He no longer presents as forgetting where he is or generally being disorientated.
