Care for rodents

Proper care of your guinea pig, hamster, or other small rodent is important. While most rodents keep themselves very clean, there are moments when they may need some extra help. This could include gently brushing the coat, trimming nails, or cleaning the eyes with eye drops. Not every animal needs intensive care, but it is useful to have the right tools at home for when they do.

Sand bath for rodents

A sand bath is a simple and natural way for small rodents to keep their coat clean. By rolling in fine bathing sand, they remove excess oil and dirt from their fur. Hamsters, gerbils, and chinchillas especially enjoy and benefit from sand baths. For guinea pigs, a sand bath is less suitable, as they have a different coat structure and do not require it.

Washing rodents

Washing rodents with water is usually unnecessary and can even be stressful. Rodents generally take care of their own coat. Only in cases of dirt they cannot remove themselves (such as urine or sticky residues in a guinea pig’s fur), Sanimal Wet Wipes can be a solution. Always make sure your pet is completely dry after cleaning to prevent hypothermia.
