In addition to regularly refreshing the hutch, it is wise to thoroughly clean the living space every now and then with a cleaner. There are different types of cleaners available, each with their own purpose and benefits. We are happy to explain the differences.
Kage cleaners
Cage cleaners are specially developed to tackle stubborn dirt in your rabbits’ living space. Urine can leave behind traces of lime and odour that are difficult to remove with just water or soap. The enzymes in cage cleaners break down these urine crystals, effectively removing both stains and unpleasant smells. Regular use, for example with CSI Cage Cleaner, keeps your rabbits’ living space fresh and hygienic, prevents the build-up of dirt and reduces the chance of odour problems. Cage cleaners can be used for a thorough clean, but also if you only want to remove some urine stains.
Multi cleaners
Ideal for cleaning the surroundings, toys, living spaces and toilets. They break down organic residues, and some leave behind a layer of probiotics, helping to preserve the good bacteria while reducing the chances of unwanted bacteria. An example of this is Beaphar Multi Cleaner.
Unpleasant odours
When urine dries, it can form ammonia. This not only causes unwanted odours but can also irritate your rabbits’ airways. Odour stoppers such as Oropharma Deodo and Beaphar Odour Stop neutralise these smells and help create a clean environment.
Disinfectant cleaners
Have your rabbits been ill, or has one of them had diarrhoea? Then a regular clean is often not enough. In such cases, extra disinfection is needed. With a powerful cleaner, such as All Friends Animal House Cleaner, you can tackle most viruses, bacteria and fungi, creating an extra hygienic environment. Use this type of cleaner mainly in exceptional situations, not as part of the weekly clean.
