Fleas are tiny blood-sucking parasites that can cause very unpleasant symptoms, such as itching and baldness. Your cat can infect itself through places with lots of fleas and then infect other pets. Flea eggs can stick to your shoes, which can also infect your indoor cat. It is therefore important to choose a good flea product to protect against these fleas.

What to do against fleas on your cat?

There are different types of products you can use against fleas. One of these products is a flea collar. Vetsend has different types of flea collars in its range, including the Beaphar Flea Collar or TPD Flea & Tick Stop. Some bands only work against fleas, but there are also bands that work against both fleas and ticks.

How does a flea collar work?

The active substance of the flea collar spreads through the sebum layer of the skin. As a result, it takes a little longer for the band to become active all over the body. After this, it no longer matters where the flea ends up on the body. With a flea collar, it is important that the flea collar touches the skin so that the active substances can spread over the body. The collar is a good fit if you can put 2 flat fingers between the collar and the cat’s neck. There should also not be too much hair between the band and the skin. The bands have a safety mechanism, which prevents your cat from getting stuck if he or she gets caught behind something with the band. The advantage of flea collars is that they are often more effective than drops. With a flea collar, you protect your cat for 6 to 8 months, while drops (spot-on) often only work for 4 weeks.

Natural flea collar for cats

If you prefer not to use chemical insecticides, there are natural flea collars for cats. An example is the TPD Flea & Tick Stop and the Knock Off Flea Tick Collar. These collars are dimethicone-based.
