Dog Vitamins & Minerals

Dogs that receive a balanced diet do not necessarily need nutritional supplements, as many types of food already contain the required amounts of vitamins and minerals. Sometimes, giving your dog a little boost of vitamins is advisable, as might be the case after surgery, during illness or for older dogs.

Vitamins for your Dog

Moreover, some dogs may require supplements due to allergies or skin problems. If you want to start your dog on supplements, talk to your veterinarian to ensure that this has additional value as some dogs don’t need them.

Nutritional Supplements

There are many different types of multivitamins and nutritional supplements for dogs, most of which promote healthy coat and skin. Canine skin problems are very common, especially in wire-haired breeds, and often presents itself in dry skin and dander, which can lead to dry and fuzzy fur. Other supplements include multivitamins to boost the immune system and supplements for older dogs, to maintain strength in their bones.

Balanced Diet

It is important for your dog to receive a well-balanced diet, which is why there is a large range of dog food available. Although your dog will thank you for a large piece of meat, the nutritional balance can become very disproportionate. Dogs on a BARF Diet for Dogs diet, for example, should be given multivitamins to ensure they obtain all of the necessary vitamins and minerals.

After Surgery or Illness

Although we hate to think of it, illness or the need for surgery can occur to any dog at any time. It is very important for your dog to regain their strength after surgery or illness. In order to do this, nutritional supplements, such as probiotics can help speed up the recovery process. It is a good idea to talk to your veterinarian about supplements and your dog, as they could advise you to start giving them supplements before surgery.

Senior Dogs

Dogs can use a hand once they start getting older to strengthen bones and joints, improve eyesight and their coat or boost the immune system. There are specific multivitamins for senior dogs, that have a unique composition to complement the needs of your senior four legged friend.

Liquid Capsules

There are two different options to enable you to give your dog supplements or medication even though they do not enjoy swallowing a pill or ingesting a liquid supplement. Firstly, you can put the grains or liquid inside a chewable capsule, that they can choose to chew or swallow whole, that dissolves in the stomach. A second option includes hollow biscuits that you can put the tablet in.

Consultation

Nutritional supplements can be very useful for many different situations, however, not every dog needs them. To ensure that you give your furry friend exactly what he needs to live a happy and healthy life, it is important to consult your veterinarian and determine whether your dog needs additional vitamins or minerals, and, if so, what type they need.
