Dried herbs are a valuable addition to the diet of various rodents. They naturally contain fibres, vitamins and minerals that provide a varied diet. In addition, they bring diversity, enrichment and activity to your pet’s enclosure. This makes them both a tasty and healthy complement to the daily diet of hamsters, guinea pigs, rats and mice. Each herb also has its own special properties: some support digestion, others contribute to relaxation or provide extra vitamins and minerals. For example, chamomile is known for its calming effect, plantain can support digestion, and goldenrod contributes to a healthy bladder function.

  • Guinea pigs: They have a high requirement for vitamin C. Dried herbs such as rosehip or parsley can be a good supplement for this.
  • Hamsters: They are omnivores with a preference for seeds and grains, but in nature they also eat small insects. Dried herbs such as plantain, dandelion leaf, chamomile or echinacea provide fibre and variety, and are also fun to forage with or use for nest building.
  • Mice: Like hamsters, they have a varied diet of grains, seeds and occasional animal proteins. Herbs such as nettle, chamomile or raspberry leaf provide healthy variety and support digestion.
  • Rats: They are omnivores as well and need both plant-based food and animal protein. Dried herbs such as mint or goldenrod are especially suitable as extra variety and enrichment alongside a balanced staple diet.
  • Degus: They have a sensitive digestive system and benefit from fibre-rich, low-sugar herbs such as chamomile or dandelion leaf.

Dried herbs are therefore more than just a tasty treat. They bring variety to the daily menu, stimulate natural foraging and nibbling behaviour, and provide additional nutrients tailored to your rodent’s needs. Whether you have a guinea pig that needs extra vitamin C, a hamster that loves to nibble, or a degu with a sensitive digestive system: there is always a suitable herb mix available.
