Syberian Cat

The Siberian Cat is a large, massive and heavy breed of cat. He has a calm character, but on the other hand, he is active. For that reason, the Siberian Cat needs plenty of room to move. This gentle giant is very social. He gets along well with people, cats and even dogs. The coat requires regular care.

Character

Siberian Cats have a calm appearance. Despite its calm nature, this cat is lively and can be very active. The Siberian cat has a strong and hardy personality, on the other hand, he is open to other dogs and other cats. The playful Siberian Cat enjoys the company of children and is very attached to its owner. The gentle giant is a good climber and jumper and loves water. He therefore also needs sufficient room to move. The development of this breed is not complete until after its fifth year of life. The Siberian Cat has a soft meow. His beautiful coat really comes through when he is allowed outside. The coat does not tangle and therefore a weekly brushing is more than sufficient. During the moult, however, he should be brushed daily.

Body, legs and tail

Siberian cats have a compact, medium-sized body. The back is long and slightly arched. The chest is rounded. The bones and muscles are strong. The cat has longer hind legs than front legs. The bones are heavy and well-muscled. The feet are large and round and provided with hair tufts between the toes. The tail of the Siberian Cat is large and densely haired. The medium-length tail is broad at the base.

Head, ears and eyes

The head of the Siberian cat is quite large, broad and triangular. The lines are rounded. The head is flat on top, with the forehead slightly curved. He does not have protruding or prominent cheeks. The cat’s muzzle is rounded and fairly long. Between the eyes, the nose is wide, but it narrows towards the end. The chin is round and the whiskers strong and long. The Siberian cat has moderately wide ears with rounded tips. Short-haired hair is desirable on the outside of the ears, while the inside of the auricle must have long hair. The presence of lynx tips is desirable. Siberian Cats have large, almost round eyes that are set wide apart. They are placed slightly obliquely. The traditional eye colours of this breed are green to yellow. The colour points have a blue eye colour. There is no relationship between coat colour and eye colour.

Coat

The coat of the Siberian Cat is medium to long. Thanks to the greasy, water-repellent and insulating coat, this cat can withstand the most severe frost. The coat is coarse and the undercoat is dense. On the chest, the Siberian Cat has long hair, which shortens slightly towards the shoulders. The neck is covered with long, lush hair.
