- Product Description
Overweight animals usually live much shorter lives and are often very unhealthy compared to animals that have optimal body weight. Excess body weight puts pressure on the bones and joints, sometimes causing existing conditions like joint problems (osteoarthritis) to get worse. Additionally, overweight animals often feel uncomfortable, are affected by heat more and often play and exercise a lot less. They also have weaker immune systems, putting them at a greater risk during surgery and anaesthesia. Also, because overweight animals move less, energy consumption decreases further, often exacerbating weight and obesity problems.
Thanks to increased protein content in Royal Canin Obesity Management Dog, weight loss can be achieved while retaining muscle. In order to achieve weight loss, it's important that smaller amounts of energy are consumed. Royal Canin Obesity Management Dog contains extra vitamins and minerals, so the animal gets enough of these essential nutrients. When an animal is obese, extra pressure is put on their joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin help maintain normal joint mobility. Essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) and trace elements (copper, zinc) contribute to healthy skin and a shiny coat.
The target weight is determined on the basis of the breed and the individual dog. Optimal weight loss is 1-3% per week (depending on degree of obesity and sex). When the target weight has been reached, you can move on to Royal Canin Weight Control Dog (stage 2) to maintain optimum weight.
