Education & practical experience

Astrid trained as a veterinary assistant and worked with great dedication at the same veterinary practice for 19 years. During that time, she built up extensive knowledge of veterinary medicine, nutrition, and care, with particular expertise as a rabbit behaviorist.

Thanks to her work at the practice, Astrid knows exactly what questions pet owners have and how to give clear advice that really helps. She now brings this experience to her work at Medpets, where she has been working as a Veterinary Assistant Content Specialist since the beginning of 2024, providing reliable and practical information for pet owners and their animals.

Chronic kidney failure in cats and dogs

Chronic kidney failure is a common condition in older cats. As the name suggests, chronic kidney failure means that the kidneys have not been functioning properly for a long time. Unfortunately, owners don't always catch the early signs of this condition, and as a result it is often diagnosed at a late stage. If you notice that your ageing cat is becoming slow, has a reduced appetite and a dull coat, is losing weight or drinking and urinating more than he used to, getting him checked over by your veterinarian is a good idea. It is possible that his kidney function is deteriorating.
