Viszla

The Vizsla is an elegant hunting dog from Hungary, bursting with energy. It is a very intelligent dog that likes to be around people. There are short-haired Vizslas and wire-haired Vizslas, where short-haired ones are not well suited to the cold because they do not have the woolly undercoat that the wire-haired ones do have. In addition, the wirehaired Vizslas can be recognized by a ‘beard’ that is two to three cm long under the nose.

Approach to training

The Vizsla is a sensitive dog that needs to be taken care of. During the upbringing, the owner will have to remain calm and have a lot of patience. On the other hand, they will be easy to train due to their intelligence and eagerness to learn. This also means that they need sufficient mental challenge. An owner must take into account at least one and a half hours of walking a day, during which they must also be able to run without a leash. During training, your Visla must learn to return to you when walking off-leash.

Dog sports

There are different kinds of sports for Vizsla’s; hunting training, agility, obedience, flyball and rescue exercises.

Vizslas are suitable for owners who:

  • Find an active and intelligent dog
  • Want to work with their dog, think of hunting training or tracking
  • Not having to leave the dog alone too much
