    Excellent Horse Sand-Away

Excellent Horse Sand-Away is a complementary feed for horses to support intestinal transit. The product contains psyllium, a fibre-rich ingredient that forms a gel-like mass in the intestines when combined with moisture. This not only supports good intestinal function, but also the natural removal of accumulated sand through the droppings. Horses can unknowingly ingest sand while grazing or eating. This may occur, for example, in a sparse pasture, with very short grass, or when hay is eaten from a sandy surface. Sand-Away can be given as a 6-day course in these situations.

This product contains psyllium. Therefore, do not give it at the same time as medicines or other supplements, as the fibres may affect their absorption. Preferably allow at least 1 to 2 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after administering other products.

How do you know if your horse is ingesting sand?

With a simple droppings test, you can get an indication of the amount of sand your horse is excreting via the droppings. To do this, fill half a bucket with water and place 5 to 6 droppings balls in it. Leave the bucket to stand for about an hour and then check whether sand has settled at the bottom. Is there more than about one teaspoon of sand on the bottom? Then a course of Sand-Away can be given.

A droppings test only gives an indication and does not show exactly how much sand is present in the intestines. If your horse has abdominal pain, recurring signs of colic or other intestinal complaints, please contact your vet.
