Osteoarthritis is one of the most common joint disorders in cats, which is caused by the degradation of cartilage, leading to inflammatory reactions and pain. Although osteoarthritis can occur in any joint, it most commonly occurs in the elbow, knee and hip joints. Specific diet foods that offer the necessary building blocks, such as glucosamine and chondroitin, can be given to help support the deteriorating cartilage. Another main contributory factor for the development of osteoarthritis is obesity, as joints become overburdened and cartilage starts becoming more and more worn down.
