Balancers for horses

A healthy horse needs enough vitamins, minerals and other nutrients every day to keep all bodily processes functioning properly. Even when a horse receives sufficient forage, some nutrients may not be present in the right amount or ratio. A balancer helps supplement the daily ration, so your horse gets the nutrients it needs without requiring extra energy-rich hard feed.

When do you choose a balancer?

Balancers are particularly suitable for horses that receive little or no hard feed, but also for horses that eat less than the recommended amount of hard feed. As forage does not always contain all the necessary vitamins and minerals, a supplement can help keep the ration balanced. For daily supplementation, products such as Vitalbix Daily Complete and NAF Equine Optimum Concentrated Feed Balancer are examples of balancers that provide the ration with concentrated vitamins and minerals.

Daily support or temporary supplementation

There are different types of balancers, depending on your horse’s needs. Most balancers are intended for daily use and support a balanced intake of vitamins and minerals. There are also balancers that can be used temporarily when a horse needs extra support, for example to maintain or build a healthy body weight. Cavalor WholeGain Mix is an example of this. There are also balancers designed for a specific stage of a horse’s life. For example, Pavo 18Plus Vital has been developed to provide senior horses with a suitable supplement to their daily diet.

A balanced ration for every horse

A good ration always starts with sufficient high-quality forage and unlimited fresh drinking water. By also considering the amount of hard feed and your horse’s needs, you can determine whether a balancer is a valuable addition. This helps prevent deficiencies in essential nutrients and supports your horse’s overall health in the long term.
