The sand helps to remove excess oil from the coat and contributes to a clean and well-kept coat condition. For chinchillas, a daily sand bath is essential. Chinchillas should not bathe in water, because their dense coat absorbs water and dries slowly. A wet coat can lead to health problems. A sand bath therefore offers a safe and natural way to care for the coat. Degus also need a regular sand bath to keep their coat free of naturally secreted oil. Hamsters, gerbils and degus can use a sand bath several times a week as part of their natural grooming behaviour. Thanks to its absorbent properties, the bathing sand is a practical choice for coat care for various small pets.

Usage
Place the bathing sand in a suitable sand tray or bathing house. Chinchillas need daily access to a sand bath. Put some bathing sand in a tall box or, for example, a cat litter tray and let the chinchillas roll happily through the sand. They will enjoy moving through the sand and this will help keep their coat healthy and remove excess oils. For hamsters, gerbils and degus, a sand bath is recommended 2 to 3 times a week. Replace the sand regularly for optimal hygiene.
Please note: Chinchillas should not be immersed in water because their coat absorbs water and is very difficult to dry. In addition, water in the coat can lead to hypothermia, which can be fatal.
