Our cat loved chicken, but it turned out he was allergic to it (sticky stools and vomiting). We tried all the flavours and venison is finally his favourite. Turkey didn’t agree with him either because of his allergy. It took a while, but now he’s used to it and loves it just as much as he ever did chicken. We add some lukewarm water and mash it up with a fork, which makes it smell even nicer and nice and creamy.

Food hypersensitivity
Food hypersensitivity means that your cat is allergic or intolerant to certain ingredients in its food. This can be treated with special diet foods containing ingredients to which the cat will not have a hypersensitive reaction. The food hypersensitivity diagnosis is made based on the results of an elimination diet. Such a diet is sometimes referred to as hypoallergenic, and includes a single protein and a single source of carbohydrates which are known to rarely cause a hypersensitive reaction.
Key features of TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat
TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat contains a single protein source (venison) and a single carbohydrate source (rice). This should be the only food your cat eats for a period of 3-8 weeks. This diet prevents immunological reactions (food allergy), or non-immunological reactions (food intolerance) in the form of skin complaints and/or gastrointestinal complaints. Please note that not all complaints will immediately diminish or disappear. For example, skin conditions will only improve gradually. If symptoms reduce or disappear, an intolerance can be diagnosed. TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat also contains all of the vitamins and minerals your cat needs from day to day in optimal quantities.
Recommended for
- Food allergy
- Food intolerance
TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) is also suitable for kittens with these conditions.

Use

Extremely Unpopular & Rice as a FillerBy Max T., Friday 28 August 2026TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat - 12 x 200g Tins
I bought this food for my senior cat, who suffers from a severe food allergy. My hope was to switch to a single-protein food that he hadn't been exposed to before. Unfortunately, this food has a very mushy texture. My cat is NOT fussy with any type of food. The first day went well—he accepted it gratefully. The following days were more difficult. Even mixed with a little warm water, the product turned into a kind of paste (extremely sticky). By day two, my cat was already trying to bury it :-) By the fifth day, I stopped feeding it as he started having diarrhoea again. I switched to a pure single-protein venison food WITHOUT rice, potato, or grain additives, which smells much nicer, is well accepted, and contains no extra additives. It wasn’t right for us, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be the solution for others.

I doubt there’s anything wrong with the product but opened just one tin and the cat wouldn’t eat it 😏

Wonderful for IBD in CatsBy Suzanne, Tuesday 16 September 2025TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat - 6 x 200g Tins
Fantastic wet hypoallergenic venison cat food with only 4 ingredients plus minerals. Have tried everything for our Tonkinese cat with IBD and it is the only wet cat food he can tolerate. So happy to be having wet food and not just dry food! So important to give food with very few ingredients to cats with IBD!

GreatBy Sue Glanville, Monday 1 September 2025TROVET Hypoallergenic VRD (Venison) Cat - 12 x 200g Tins
Both my cats eat it readily and it seems to help a bit with the dodgy digestion of one of them.
