The food has a limited protein content and a minimal phosphorus content in order to reduce the strain on the kidneys. Omega-3 fatty acids have been added to reduce inflammation in the kidneys. TROVET Renal RID (Venison) Cat contains extra energy. In the event of a reduced appetite, the cat can eat a smaller amount of this food and still get its required daily energy. The food contains venison as the only animal protein source and rice as the only source of carbohydrates and is therefore highly suitable for cats with food hypersensitivities.

Use

It is the only food Pixie will eat, she has an allergy to chicken and all its contents that are in most cat food even fish products seem to have this chicken additive!

My 16year old cat with on-going renal issues has over the last few months developed some allergy problems, itching ears and body and pulling fur out. And seems really fed up. By a process of elimination, I have now focussed on changing his food. For the last five years he has been on Royal Canin feline renal pouches {occasionally I give renal dry food, which he loves but as he only has four teeth it was a struggle} This has worked very well but when I noticed the allergy symptoms , I wanted to try another brand. Its hard to find a dual food for allergy and renal, hence we have been trying this Trovet renal RID, as it sounds like it might help. I have gradually weaned him into this item because of its consistency, which he is not used to I have to add a little water {he loves gravy} he seems to be doing well with the mixture of the two and getting close to just having the Trovet on its own. He does seem to be eating less with a few toilet changes but that happens when changing foods. Too early to say whether the itching has decreased but fingers crossed.
