Giardia test cat

With a Giardia test for cats, you can easily check at home whether your cat is infected with Giardia. This is a common intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal complaints. The test is easy to carry out yourself and does not need to be sent to a laboratory. This way, you can quickly gain clarity about a possible infection.

When is a Giardia test for cats recommended?

A Giardia test can be useful if your cat:

  • has long-lasting or recurring diarrhoea
  • shows variable or mucous stools
  • eats less or loses weight
  • lives in a multi-cat household
  • has recently been adopted or comes from a shelter

Giardia occurs relatively often in kittens and young cats, but can also infect adult cats.

Why test at home?

The advantage of a home test is that you:

  • get quick results
  • do not need to send a stool sample to a laboratory
  • can immediately assess whether further steps are needed

If the test result is positive, it is advisable to contact your vet.

A home test is a convenient first step, but it does not provide information about other possible causes of diarrhoea, such as worms or bacterial infections. If symptoms persist despite treatment, further examination by a vet may be necessary.
