Product Description
Fassisi Giardia Rapid Test
The Fassisi Giardia Rapid Test is a handy home test that allows you to quickly and easily determine whether your dog or cat is infected with Giardia, a common intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhoea and digestive problems. This test provides clarity within minutes, enabling you to take appropriate measures in consultation with your veterinarian. It is advisable to test multiple times, as Giardia shedding can be irregular and may also be temporarily interrupted. The faeces should be examined at least three times within a period of about 7 - 10 days before Giardiasis can be ruled out.
Features
- Suitable for dogs and cats
- Detection of Giardia via the stool
- Easy to perform yourself
- Provides quick results, within 10 minutes
Sample Material Usage
The best sample material is fresh dog or cat faeces. If it is not possible to test on the same day, the stool can be stored for a maximum of 6 days at 2 to 8°C. The faecal sample must be brought to room temperature before performing the test. For sampling, a composite stool sample should be thoroughly mixed or the stool should be sampled with a cotton swab at different sites. Press the cotton swab into the stool so that it is lightly covered with stool.
Before Using the Test
- A new test cassette and new test tube must be used for each test.
- After opening the aluminium bag, the test cassette must be used within the following hour.
- The test cassette should be placed horizontally on a flat surface during the test procedure.
- Too much or too little sample (stool) can negatively affect the test course and lead to ambiguous or even invalid results.
- Avoid suctioning cat litter or other coarse particles.
Fassisi Giardia Rapid Test Procedure
(image) Step 1: Take a stool sample with the cotton swab (see sample material usage). Step 2: Unscrew the test tube and insert the cotton swab with sample into it, dissolve the sample material while stirring in the liquid. Step 3: Screw the test tube shut and shake briefly. Open the aluminium packaging and place the test cassette on a horizontal surface. Step 4: Break the top end of the test tube by pressing firmly on it. Step 5: Add 3 drops of the sample material to the sample hole of the test cassette. If the fluid does not move over the test strip after a few seconds, add another drop.
The results can be read after 10 minutes.
Test Results
A positive test result can be identified by a line at both the test line (T-area) and the control line (C-area). Even if the test line is only faintly visible, it means that Giardia antigens have been detected in the stool. If your pet tests positive for Giardia with the rapid test, it is advisable to discuss a treatment plan with your veterinarian.
A negative test result shows only a line at the control line (C-area). Giardia cysts are not excreted with every stool. A negative test result does not necessarily mean that your pet is not infected with Giardia. It may be necessary to repeat the test after about a week.
When is the Test Result Invalid?
If the test line is discoloured brown by the stool, and no control line (C-area) is visible, the test is unreliable and invalid and must be repeated.
