Pressed Dog Food

Pressed kibbles are formed at a lower temperature. Because the kibble is pressed, it contains no air, making the food more concentrated. A daily portion of pressed kibble may therefore look like a smaller amount of kibble, but it still contains all the necessary nutrients.

How is kibble pressed?

Pressed kibble is made by bringing the ingredients to a temperature of between 38 and 75 degrees Celsius and pressing them through a die. This temperature is not high enough to process the grains used sufficiently. It is therefore important to use pre-cooked grains so that your dog can digest and make good use of the carbohydrates. On the other hand, the lower temperature means that the other ingredients are exposed to less heat.

Why choose pressed kibble?

Pressed kibble not only looks like a smaller amount, but it also takes up less space in the stomach. It breaks apart, which places less strain on the stomach. Because of this lower strain, pressed kibble is ideal for active dogs and sporting dogs. Fussy eaters may also benefit from pressed kibble. For pregnant bitches that eat less towards the end of their pregnancy because the puppies take up more space, the smaller portions can still provide sufficient nutrients.

Switching from crunchy kibble to pressed kibble

If you want to switch from crunchy kibble to pressed kibble, the transition may be slightly different from how you would normally change foods. It is best to switch directly to the pressed kibble. This may temporarily affect your dog’s stools, but this usually settles after a few days.
