Concentrate Horse Feed

Horses get most of their nutrients from forage, such as hay or grass. Depending on their age, workload, condition or specific nutritional needs, concentrate feed can be a valuable addition to the ration. There are different types of concentrate feed, including muesli, pellets, balancers and mash. The best option depends on your horse’s needs.

Muesli for horses

Horse muesli consists of a varied mix of ingredients and is available for different life stages and activity levels. Pavo Nature’s Best is suitable as an all-round muesli, while Cavalor Strucomix Senior has been specially developed for older horses.

Pellets for horses

Pellets, also known as cubes, contain an even distribution of nutrients because all ingredients are compressed together. This means your horse receives the same nutritional composition with every mouthful. For everyday use, Pavo BasicPlus is an example of a complete pellet feed, while Cavalor Action Pellet is suitable for horses that are ridden regularly.

Balancers for horses

A balancer is a concentrated feed that provides vitamins, minerals and other nutrients without the need to feed large quantities. This can be a suitable supplement when a horse gets enough energy from forage but needs additional nutrients. Examples include NAF Equine Optimum Concentrated Feed Balancer and Vitalbix Daily Complete.

Mash for horses

Mash is prepared with water to create a tasty, soft meal. This can be particularly beneficial for horses that need extra fluids or have difficulty chewing dry feed. Pavo SlobberMash and Cavalor Mash & Mix – Wellness Mash are examples of mash that can easily be prepared with water.
