Kidney diet for cats

A kidney diet has several characteristics that can help support cats with kidney problems:

  • A kidney diet has the lowest possible protein level
  • The proteins are of good quality and highly digestible
  • A kidney diet has limited phosphorous content

These characteristics are important to reduce the burden on the kidneys. The diets are also often tasty and higher in calories, so cats with a decreased appetite will still want to eat and maintain their optimal weight. Additionally, the added Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants help protect the remaining healthy kidney tissue.

Most kidney diets are available as dry food and wet food.
