Aquarium and environment

The goldfish is a coldwater fish that can be kept in both an aquarium and a pond. In an aquarium, sufficient space is essential, as goldfish can grow quite large and swim a lot. Therefore, always choose a spacious aquarium with a powerful filtration system. Goldfish produce relatively a lot of waste, making good water quality especially important. A setup with sturdy plants and plenty of swimming space creates a pleasant living environment.

Feeding

Goldfish are omnivores and readily accept different types of food. You can feed them special goldfish flakes or pellets, optionally supplemented with frozen or live food. Small amounts of plant-based food, such as cooked vegetables, can also be a good addition. Preferably feed several small portions per day and avoid overfeeding, as this can quickly pollute the water.

Keeping with other fish

Goldfish can be kept together with other goldfish or calm coldwater species. It is less suitable to combine them with tropical fish, as their temperature requirements differ. Also keep in mind that smaller fish may be seen as food. Therefore, choose fish of similar size and with a calm temperament.

Care

Goldfish are known for quickly polluting the water. Regular maintenance, such as partially changing the water and cleaning the filter, is therefore important. Pay close attention to water quality and avoid fluctuations. In addition, goldfish need sufficient space to move properly and feel comfortable. A small round bowl, as was often used in the past, is therefore not suitable for keeping goldfish.
