Recognisable symptoms of a sensitive stomach or intestines

Dogs with stomach or intestinal issues often show symptoms such as:

There are many causes of sensitive intestines. In almost all cases, a suitable diet can provide support. Broadly speaking, we distinguish between two types of diet food:

Easily digestible food for your dog

For acute digestive problems such as diarrhoea or vomiting after eating something inappropriate, easily digestible food can provide relief. These diets contain ingredients that are easily absorbed by the intestines and are enriched with pre- and probiotics. The fibre content is also adapted to help prevent overstimulation of the intestinal wall.

Hypoallergenic food for chronic intestinal problems

Does your dog suffer from ongoing digestive issues? A food sensitivity may be the cause. This often requires an elimination diet. Once a food sensitivity is confirmed, you can switch to a hypoallergenic diet.

A hypoallergenic diet may consist of:

  • Hydrolysed proteins
  • A single, well-tolerated protein source (mono-protein)

In addition, these diets often contain one less common carbohydrate source and are low in allergens such as gluten.

Dog food with hydrolysed proteins

For dogs with unknown intolerances, hydrolysed proteins are a safe choice. By breaking down the proteins into smaller parts, the immune system no longer recognises them as allergens.

Dog food with mono-protein

If you know which proteins your dog tolerates, you can choose a food with just one animal protein source. This also makes it easier to select complementary snacks.
